If there was ever a season when Texas flair reigned supreme with the fashionistas, then this is the season. It’s time to dust off those cowboy boots you’ve had stashed in your wardrobe because the Country & Western fever has hit the catwalks and into fashion stores like never before. The other big trends to look out for are check and plaid patterns, animal print, red in various shades and capes. While this article features where to buy these looks around Southlake Town Square which is my new hometown, you can grab these from most fashion retails. If you love the look and can’t find it, send me a message below in the comments box and I’ll get back to with some more information!
Now, all you need is your pumpkin-spiced latte and you’re good to go!
1. Western

The Country & Western fever has hit the catwalks and fashion stores like never before! If you’re a Texan native, you probably own a pair of cowboy boots already, but the trick to this season is pairing them with a winter floral dress or long skirt instead of the traditional blue denim jeans. Additionally, try a bag and jacket with fringe or layer traditional (Native–American inspired) turquoise jewelry with your favorite jeans and add a western buckle-belt.
Sundance Catalog is my store of choice for a relaxed boho-western vibe, where you’ll find plenty of leather boots, turquoise jewelry, and western accessories. You can also get sweaters and bags with fringe from Apricot Lane, and we found gorgeous beaded cuffs in the Christo Collection from Brighton Collectibles.
Style Tip: Try pairing western pieces with rock-n-roll t-shirts for a boho-festival look. Lucky Brand Jeans always has a wide variety of t-shirt options to choose from!
Style Inspiration: @westdesperado — One blogger that pulls this look off flawlessly is Shaley Ham. Her style is all about how to mix a modern edge with western roots!
2. Plaid & Check

Plaids and tartans are back on the radar in a big way. The best way to fly the chequered flag is to invest in a statement piece and work it back with neutral shades and classic blacks. You’ll find stores like Anthropologie, Apricot Lane and Evereve showing a host of different ways to get this look with jackets, shorts, skirts and accessories. I spied a fabulous black and white long coat in the newly opened store, Scout & Molly’s Boutique.
Style Tip: If the bold tartan check isn’t your style, try a subtler check (like a gray houndstooth pattern) in a jacket or tailored pants.
Style Inspiration: @mozdeb — Dallas lifestyle and style blogger, Debora Manusama-Sinaga, shows this look with her family, all in plaid. Styled back with a blush pink skirt and heels, she combines the neutrals with style and grace.
3. Animal Prints
One of the most popular trends that keeps coming back is animal print. This ‘Call of the Wild’ trend is a timeless classic that can be worn all year round! This fall, the shops are filled with everything from leopard to zebra to snakeskin. Brighton Collectibles has a gorgeous new African inspired collection featuring leopard print in wallets, bags and accessories. I also found an excellent pair of leopard print loafers in Madewell, gorgeous snakeskin boots in American Threads and a snakeskin clutch bag in Zar Clothier Women.
Style Tip: Don’t try and match different prints together—Go with one print and match it with neutral items.
Style Inspiration: @fostersfavs — Kelly Foster recently showcased her love of animal print on Instagram. She’ll show you how to take catwalk trends like this and work them into your wardrobe effortlessly and stylishly.
4. Red & Burgandy

Colors on the catwalks are always an indication of hot trends, so there’s no surprise the stores around Southlake are flooded with these rich, vibrant color for Fall! The color of choice this season is PANTONE 19-1536, ‘Red Pear’, which the Pantone Color Institute describes as a ‘deliciously deep red, whose luscious depth entices.’ No, I’m not exactly sure what they mean by this either, but I have seen it in just about every store this Fall! I particularly loved finding these colors in a faux fur trim bomber jacket in Anthropologie, velvet jeans in Madewell and leather tote bags in Coach.
Style Tip: Burgundy and wine hues look great paired back with earthy tones or denim!
Style Inspiration: @dancingbackwardsinheels — Dallas style and lifestyle blogger, Gina Lynn, recently shared on Instagram how to wear this color in a dress for work with tan accessories or with denim for the weekends.
5. Capes

Don’t think superhero when you think of capes, think must-have for your Fall wardrobe! Capes are a chic piece that can transform a casual look into a high-fashion outfit in seconds, and they’rea little dressier than the shawl you might already own. It’s a great way to layer for Texas fall weather, and it’s so simple to throw over any outfit for an extra finish. I found some great cape selections in Anthropologie, Apricot Lane and Evereve at Southlake Town Square.
Style Tip: If you’re looking for a casual weekend look, opt for a cape in a tartan print or chunky wool design.
Style Inspiration: @threadsandtravel — I’ve been wearing capes for years and can’t quite get enough of this chic on-the-go trend. This picture was taken on the fly after the temperature had dropped twenty degrees in ten minutes. Nothing like fall in Texas! A quick throw-over can transform a sweater and jeans combo into something more stylish (and a little more cozy).
